Governance and Elected Officers
Elected Officers
The ordinary running of the Society shall be the responsibility of the Executive Council, comprising the Officers of the Society. There shall be three elected officers: President, Secretary (President-Elect), and Treasurer. Previous past presidents and the immediate past treasurer will participate in meetings of the Executive Council as consultants.
These offices shall be held for a total period of three years. The President-Elect shall serve as Secretary for three years, and then automatically assume the office of President for three years, after which he/she shall serve as Past-President for three years. Any Elected Officer, if nominated by the Nominations Committee and duly elected, can serve for additional terms in the same or another elected office, or he/she may be appointed to serve on the Executive Council in another capacity.
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of the various officers of the Society shall be as follows:
President
The President shall be elected to a three-year term by TULISOC members as the Chief Executive Officer of the Society and shall serve as Chair of the Executive Council.
The President shall:
- preside at all meetings of the Society and of the Executive Council;
- appoint all committees not otherwise provided for in the By-laws;
- fill all vacancies in appointive positions;
- provide general direction of the affairs of the Society; and
- perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Executive Council.
Secretary (President-Elect)
The Secretary (President-Elect) shall be elected to a three-year term by TULISOC members.
As President-Elect, the Secretary shall serve as President in case of the death, absence, or inability of the President to serve. In the absence of the President, the Secretary (President-Elect) shall serve as chair.
The Secretary shall:
- be responsible for keeping the minutes of meetings of the Society and Executive Council meetings;
- be responsible for notifying the membership of meetings, calls for papers, dues, nominations, annual reports, and all other items as directed by the Executive Council;
- assist the President in his/her duties;
- perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Executive Council.
Treasurer
The Treasurer shall be elected by the TULISOC members for a three-year term. The immediate past treasurer will participate in meetings of the Executive Council as a consultant.
The Treasurer shall:
- be responsible for the custody of funds and securities of the Society, and be responsible for approving and monitoring the collection, investment, and disbursement of Society assets, within the guidelines and/or budgets approved by Council.
- report to the President and the Executive Council as to the financial condition of the Society; and
- shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Executive Council.
